Porgy and Bess Student Dress Rehearsal Registration

Thank you for your interest in Lyric Opera of Kansas City's Student Dress Rehearsal for The Gershwins®' Porgy and Bess! The dress rehearsal will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 6:00 pm at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. We ask school groups to arrive at 5:30 pm. The Gershwins®' Porgy and Bess will be performed in English with English translations projected above the stage.


Registration closes one week prior to the dress rehearsal date. Payment is due at the time of registration. No refunds will be issued.

This opera offers students a rare opportunity to experience an American operatic masterpiece, exploring the joys and struggles of a Black community in early 20th-century Charleston, South Carolina. To support deeper engagement with the opera’s cultural, historical, and musical themes, schools attending the dress rehearsal are invited to participate in a three-session residency ($600 cost). Facilitated at your school by Lyric Opera’s Learning Department, teaching artists, and performers, these sequential workshops include two sessions before the dress rehearsal and one reflective session afterward, immersing students in the who, what, where, when, and why of the opera.
