Beyond its visual splendor and quality craftsmanship, the history of this building and the incredibly thoughtful choices that went into its creation add far more meaning to this place. The design choices of architects Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan specifically foster a space evoking peace and contemplation based in neurological perception, as well as a sense of community and equality, as intended by founder Ferdinand Peck's vision of a "Theatre for the People". Internationally renowned artists and world leaders—along with equally worthy civilians of all social classes—have each stepped foot into our space to take part in something bigger than themselves. This organization as a whole, and the space itself, intentionally leads those who enter its doors to a feeling of connection to those who have been here and contributed to our world before us, those who will be here and continue our growth into future generations, and those we are present with us in this current moment, in an ephemeral yet meaningful way, with each and every performance and event that takes place here. If ever there is a building—and a mission—worth preserving, it is this one.
